Bedding In Your BrakesUpdated a year ago
What Does Bedding In Do?
You may ask yourself what do you want me to do with my brakes? You are not alone...
Bedding in your brakes is the heating of your brake pads, which causes them to transfer some of the material to the rotor. This process gives your brakes a better grip and increases the effectiveness of stopping your e-bike.
Find A Safe Place:
You need to find a long, gradual road with a smooth surface. Something that allows roughly a 20 mph roll with enough space and safety to perform some hard stops is best.
Start The Process:
Now that you have a safe space, ride the bike in a straight line at around 10 mph. You will slow to a walking speed by lightly braking (do not fully lock up your brakes). Do this about 10 - 12 times.
Increase your speed to around 20 mph and repeat the braking process.
Test:
Now that you’ve bedded in your brakes or new brake pads, it’s time to get on the road and test your work.
Tips:
- Everyone has their own way of bedding in brakes. This is what we recommend at Juiced Bikes.
- Early pulls (pulling on brake levers) on the brakes will feel poor. You will gradually notice this will improve during the bedding process.
- You might want to check your brake lever to ensure that it adapts to the feel of the newly bedded brakes.
