If the electronics are turned off completely, the bike may be ridden as a normal bicycle. The additional weight from the electronics system will require more pedaling effort, but the motor has a freewheeling clutch. This means there is very little drag from the motor when no power is being used.
The bike’s transmission is rather tall and is more difficult to use without power. The gear ratio was designed with the assumption that some power is being used during the majority of the ride. Most riders to use the motor, as it leads to a more comfortable and easy ride.
